Rebecca Nemiroff
I am honoured to have recently become an Associate of the Centre for Treatment of Sexual Abuse and Childhood Trauma. I am currently in the final stages of completing my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Ottawa, and completed my clinical internship there in 2008-2009. I have been working clinically for eight years, and take an integrative approach to psychotherapy, combining elements of cognitive-behavioural, interpersonal, and experiential treatment strategies. To me, this means working with people to help them learn new approaches to problems in living, to deal with difficult emotions, and to form healthy and meaningful relationships with other people. I currently work with adults who are experiencing a variety of difficulties, including reactions to trauma, dissociation, depression, anxiety, grief, and difficulty in relationships. I strongly believe in taking a collaborative approach to therapy; I believe it is important to work in partnership with my clients and to empower individuals to work toward their own healing and mental health. I strive to establish a genuine and empathic relationship with clients, and believe healing can only take place in an environment of trust and safety. I enjoy working with people of different backgrounds, and feel it is important to view and respect each person as a unique individual. It is important to me to bring a strong commitment to social justice to my work and to my life.
