Matthew Kerr Ph.D.

Matthew Kerr

My goal as a therapist is to partner with individuals in helping them work towards richer, and more fulfilling lives. Often this involves addressing and overcoming symptoms that are negatively impacting on current functioning. Discussing current and/or historical trauma or other sources of emotional pain is often an important aspect of this work. My clients are women and men who experience symptoms of depression, anxiety, panic, post traumatic stress, dissociation, and/or those seeking to enrich their ways of interacting with themselves and others. My approach to therapy is client-centred and I draw upon emotion-focused/experiential, interpersonal, and cognitive behavioural therapy techniques to meet each person where they are at in addressing their challenges. I believe that each person has the right to be heard, to tell their story, and to grow in their own mental health and well being. I consider it my privilege to partner with people as they do these things.

I originally trained with the Centre from 2004-2006 as part of my graduate training and began working with the Centre as an Associate Member in 2010. I received my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Ottawa in 2010 and am currently in the process of seeking registration with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. I am a member of the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) and of the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation (ISST-D).
