Lori de Laplante Ph.D., C.Psych
I am a registered psychologist with a practice in clinical, health and rehabilitation psychology. In addition to offering treatment for common psychological problems (e.g. anxiety, depression, stress), I provide assessment and treatment to adults (or their caregivers) who have been negatively impacted by physical health issues or traumas. Such health issues range from chronic or terminal illnesses and injuries to physical symptoms that doctors are unable to fully explain or treat (e.g. pain, fatigue, gastrointestinal symptoms, chemical sensitivities). Traumas can include recent events or past traumas that are negatively impacting an individual’s current functioning (e.g. childhood abuse, neglect, divorce, death, or illness in the family).
To assist clients in their ability to cope with and address their physical and emotional difficulties, I offer a mixture of supportive-expressive, cognitive-behavioural, solution-focused and interpersonal therapies. I also provide clients with self-hypnosis and relaxation skills training. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is used to assist in the treatment of individuals suffering from post-traumatic stress.
With respect to my professional background, I completed my Bachelor’s degree at Carleton University and my Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology at the University of Ottawa. I have worked in Edmonton and Ottawa with clients adjusting to the physical and emotional sequelae of illnesses, injuries, and traumas. I am registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario and the Canadian Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology. I am also a member of the local, provincial and national associations of psychology.
