Janice Fraser MSW, RSW

Janice FraserI have been working in the field of psychotherapy and mental health for the past 24 years. I have been an associate with the Centre For Treatment for 11 years, and I really believe in the work that the Centre does. I work with a wide range of trauma issues including substance abuse and addictions, sexual, physical and emotional trauma, family of origin issues, grief and loss, relationships, and life transition issues. I work predominantly with adults.

For me, it is really important that clients feel that their therapist is a good fit for them. I believe that a good fit contributes to a safe and trusting relationship, which helps people move towards further growth, peace, and serenity.

My work borrows from a wide range of theoretical perspectives, including cognitive-behavioral, relational, rational-emotive, systemic, emotionally focused, and attachment theory. I am experienced in couples work, and have many years of experience working with groups. Since 2004 I have been doing trauma work in small communities in Nunavut. I enjoy supervising students and therapists working in the field of trauma, and enjoy doing workshops, training, and lectures in the areas of addiction and trauma.

I graduated in 1985 with a BA in Therapeutic Recreation and Leisure Studies from the University of Waterloo, and in 1996 with a Masters Degree in Social Work from Carleton University. I am a registered social worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. I am also a member of the Canadian and Ontario Associations of Social Workers. I am supervised under a licensed psychologist for the purposes of most clients’ insurance plans and am a licensed practitioner with the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch of Health Canada. I am certified in EMDR Therapy, and Sandtray/Worldplay Therapy.
