Deborah Gilman Ph.D., C.Psych.

Deborah GilmanI have been working in private and public sector mental health settings including outpatient clinics, inpatient psychiatric hospital units, and private practices serving children, adolescents, and adults in rural, remote, and urban areas in the United States and Canada for over 10 years. I have provided psychotherapy, clinical supervision, management, and consultation. My special interests and expertise are in areas associated with traumatic experiences, development across the lifespan, personality structure, and cross-cultural interventions.

As a clinician, I work collaboratively with clients to identify patterns composed of behaviors, thoughts, feelings, and sensations that have developed as adaptations to traumatic and other life experiences. Once these patterns have been clearly delineated and some of the conditions and events that likely gave rise to them have been explored, we work together to shift these patterns in directions that support freer and more authentic functioning. In addition to applying these practices and principles to help people who have experienced trauma, I am interested in promoting enhanced functioning in people whose desire is to further their own growth, development, and interpersonal functioning through greater self-awareness.

I graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1998 with a doctoral degree. I have been a licensed practitioner in New York State since 1999. I am currently in the process of applying for registration with the College of Psychologists of Ontario.
