Bev Cimermanis, M.Ed

BevCim - bio photo 2010I have lived in Ottawa since 1965.  Having first obtained my B.A. in Education at the University of Kentucky, I taught school for a number of years, both in the U.S. and here in Ottawa, in both elementary and secondary panels.   I began a Masters, first in Special Education, gaining knowledge for handicapped, and gifted populations.  In 1984 I completed a Master’s of Education in Counselling at the University of Ottawa.  I started my private practice in Counselling while working as guidance counselor with the various school boards.

In 1992, I joined with several colleagues to form the Centre for Treatment of Sexual Abuse and Childhood Trauma, as we created a place where all family members could be seen, rather than being divided up among various agencies.

As my work continued, I have kept adding to my training, achieving certification in American and Ontario Associations for Marriage and Family Therapy, and constantly adding further training in the field of Trauma Treatment.

In my work, I see individuals, couples and families.  I am certified in EMDR, trained for two years with certified Gestalt therapists and Sandtray therapists.  I use psychodynamic, experiential, and cognitive techniques, along with solution-focused brief therapy.  My Couple and Family work is informed by systemic a perspective, helping me to keep a broad view also of the context of client’s lives.  I enjoy working with various cultural groups, and have lived in Brazil, Guatemala and Spain.  I have worked frequently with Nations and Inuit clients, and have been privileged to see tremendous healing in people’s lives.
