Anxiety Disorders

The ways that individuals experience anxiety include:

  •  Panic attacks (sudden onset of intense apprehension or terror with physiological symptoms of distress)
  • Agoraphobia (anxiety or avoidance of situations in which escape might be difficult, such as bridges or elevators)
  •  Phobias (specific irrational fears, such as heights or social situations), Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (e.g., avoidance of dirt by someone with an obsession about contamination)
  • Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (see above) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder (excessive worry).

Therapy can help individuals identify strategies to manage their anxiety and can lead to the resolution of underlying issues.
